When Things Do Not Go Your Way, Focus on What You Can Control

For many, January 1st creates expectations.

In our family, there is long standing tradition and expectation to watch snow fall and go sledding. We buy the appropriate snow attire and escape to the mountains.

For those of you who live in Arizona, you know that this season has not been one for snow. This year was the exception to the long-standing tradition and expectation of sledding and snowballs.

The lack of snow was a great learning opportunity that just like nature, we face unexpected disappointments, obstacles, and challenges.

It is important we remember that while we cannot control what happens, we can control how we react to situations.

Even though I missed escaping into a winter wonderland, I did not mope. I laced up my hiking boots and appreciated what nature has to offer.
