Eating healthily is not just important for your physical health, it has an impact on your mental health. Sugary drinks and foods lead to mood swings and fatigue. Processed foods lead to inflammation and negative mental health.
Instead focus on more wholesome foods to improve and stabilize mental health. Beans and legumes have been shown to help with mood regulation. Berries have antioxidants that protect brain cells from damage and can improve mood. Leafy greens such as kale and spinach may reduce the risk of depression. Fatty fish such as salmon (with omega 3 fatty acids) have been linked to reducing depression and improved mood. Whole grains-complex carbohydrates help to stabilize blood sugar, give more energy, improving focus and mood. Keep this in mind the next time you want to grab for a bag of heavily processed foods.
